Gavin Harrison dvd- GET IT!!!!

I know some people who don't dig the basic homemade-in-my-studio style of the DVD. Since it just covers the material in the book that turns off some others. Personally, I like it. I don't need lots of camera angle's, robocams, etc. As long as I can see and hear what he's doing that's enough for me.

He's coming out with another that will delve into some of his other concepts and should have a better production quality.

The thing is, he is quite boring to watch too, since he is so relaxed and fluid... no energy or excitement... DRY, but smart and musical playing. STUDIO written all over him.

The one thing is, Gavin is so DRY in this DVD... makes me feel like i am at the dentist (no Brit dental-hygene jokes here).

It makes me appreciate the Lang and Marco DVD's because they seem to have more levity to them in terms of how they speak the material.

However, that is my only complaint since i really haven't watched the whole DVD. I almost fell asleep standing up at the music store while i was watching Gavin talk. He is a little more entertaining when he plays. [img]wink.gif[/img]

The PT show was excellent!
I was happy that they were not another Dream Theater or Genesis (I’m skeptical about the "new prog" label). Their music was good and original. The alt guitar blended well with the prog atmosphere.

Gavin played great. He’s an intelligent, musical and clean player. His beats and fills were cleverly orchestrated and interestingly phrased. His overall feel and sparse approach reminded me of Ian Mosley (and he didn’t overabuse the double kicks, which a plus in my book).
In some moments I felt the music would have required more "ballsy/go-for-it" playing from him. But I figured it’s not really his style and it was good nevertheless (I found he has a studio approach to live playing).

So thanks for recommending the gig and I’ll get my hands on some of their music.
